Sekeré is this musical instrument so well known, particularly in Africa. It is a gourd covered with a rope net containing beads or shells. When shaken, the beads or shells make contact with the gourd, and create a sharp sound like gravel pouring on a wooden box. What makes it sound like that . . . is the secret which the name comes from.
