Singing songs of praise to Allah, these traditional male singers and drummers perform in town squares and on city streets. Their clothing is usually very distinctive patchwork. The domed shape of the roofs of the mosques can be seen in the background.
Senegal’s primary religions are Islam and Christianity. Mourides are a subdivision of Islam based in the city of Touba. These traveling musicians are well respected by the public.
